CARE & MAINTENANCE
At Noble Hardwoods, we craft cutting boards built to last a lifetime—but like any fine piece of craftsmanship, they require proper care to maintain their beauty, durability, and food-safe qualities. Unlike plastic boards that trap bacteria in deep cuts or cheap wood boards that warp and split, a well-maintained hardwood board is naturally antibacterial, gentle on knives, and gets better with time.
To ensure your board stays in pristine condition for years to come, follow these simple care guidelines. With the right maintenance, your Noble Hardwoods cutting board will remain a staple in your kitchen, developing character and richness with every meal you prepare.
Daily cleaning : keep it fresh
Keeping your board clean is simple and essential for food safety.
✔ Hand wash only – Rinse with warm water and mild dish soap after each use.
✔ Scrub gently – Use a soft sponge or cloth (never a dishwasher—heat & excess water will warp the wood).
✔ Wipe dry immediately – Prevent excess moisture from seeping into the wood and causing cracks.
❌ Avoid soaking – Never submerge in water, as this can cause swelling, splitting, or warping.
storage : protect your board
✔ Store upright or flat – Keep in a dry, well-ventilated area to prevent warping.
✔ Avoid direct heat & sunlight – Exposure to extreme temperatures can cause cracks.
deep cleaning : removing stains & odors
For tougher messes, natural solutions help keep your board fresh and free of lingering smells.
✔ Salt & Lemon/Vinegar – Sprinkle coarse salt on the board, then scrub with a cut lemon or white vinegar.
✔ Baking Soda Paste – Mix baking soda with a little water to form a paste, scrub, then rinse.
resurfacing : when to refinish your board
Over time, knife marks and surface wear may appear. If your board starts to feel rough:
✔ Sand it down – Use fine-grit sandpaper (220 grit) to smooth out scratches.
✔ Recondition – Apply Howard’s Cutting Board Oil or another food-safe oil to restore the surface.
oiling & conditioning : keep it hydrated
Hardwood cutting boards naturally dry out over time. To prevent cracking, splitting, or warping, we recommend oiling your board every 3-4 weeks, or whenever it starts to look dry.
✔ Use a food-safe oil – We recommend Howard’s Cutting Board Oil for the best results. It deeply hydrates the wood, prevents cracking, and enhances the natural beauty of the grain.
✔ Apply evenly – Use a soft cloth to rub the oil into the wood, let it sit for a few hours (or overnight), then wipe off excess.
✔ Buff & Enjoy – This keeps your board smooth, healthy, and ready for meal prep!
❌ Avoid cooking oils (olive, vegetable, coconut, etc.) – These can go rancid over time, causing unwanted odors and buildup.
the noble promise : built to last
With proper care, your Noble Hardwoods cutting board will not only last years—but generations. Unlike mass-produced alternatives, our boards develop a rich character over time, making them a part of your kitchen’s story. Take care of it, and it will take care of you.
